SCARE YOURSELF SILLY with Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories, the new book from Jeff Kinney, author of everyone's favorite Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. This action-packed family friendly spooky stories chapter book is great for all kids who love a scary story. From ghosts and werewolves, to alien invasions and mummies, this book will keep your kids on the edge of their seats…and possibly sleeping with the lights on!

The variety of short stories is great for any reader who likes to change things up. In this book, Jeff Kinney brings his readers on unusual adventures. I loved how the stories were long enough to paint a great picture in the reader’s mind, but short enough to read multiple stories in one sitting. Some of our favorite stories were about a town's revenge on a prankster, a ghost going gaga over a girl from school, and the boy who turned into a werewolf. These short stories are a great way to scare your kids right under their covers.

When a new Jeff Kinney book comes out, we always preorder his books to make sure we get them right away. At our house, we are diehard Jeff Kinney fans! We have all of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and the Awesome Friendly books, so we couldn't wait to start reading Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky StoriesWe knew before even opening the book that it was guaranteed to be another family favorite to add to our collection! Jeff Kinney doesn’t disappoint, this book pulls out all the stops when it comes to excitement, silliness, and of course, spooky stories. But don't worry, in typical Jeff Kinney fashion, as silly as it is spooky and entertaining (and not too scary), it really is great for readers of all ages!

When I found out that Macaroni Kid was looking for a publisher to celebrate the release of this great new book, I had to jump on the opportunity. Not only do I love any book that makes my kids want to read, I knew I would win mom of the year if I was able to host a party to celebrate a Jeff Kinney book being released! I love a good party, and when I have the chance to tie a great book into the activities, it makes it even better.

We made sure to be as creative as possible with this book so that the kids would be able to read the book and remember all of the fun activities that went along with it. We had activities to go with different chapters from the book. The chapter titled “A Mummy” inspired a toilet paper mummy wrap contest. “The Stain” inspired us to use tongue staining treats to create ghost suckers. “Ghost Friend” inspired us to create ghost slime.

To tie it all together, we read the stories while sitting around a campfire…and how could you have a fire without roasting hot dogs and eating smores?!! We were even lucky enough to find an amazing local baker to make cookies from actual characters from the book. Everyone had a blast and loved being able to cozy up by a fire and read Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories.

Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories is the perfect book for summer reading! Whether your family is out on a camping adventure or curled up on the couch at home this summer, you won’t be disappointed in this spooky and creative book that is, of course, another Jeff Kinney hit!
