May Be Social Distancing at Staying Home, But We Can Still Celebrate!

COVID-19 Quarantine has played havoc on our lives, especially when it comes to celebrating BIG milestones.  I love seeing the creative ways parents and families are still finding ways to celebrate, but still being a part of the solution in this health crisis.  I have seen birthday car parades, amazing signs by our MK Birthday Club partner @signgypsiesjc, Zoom parties and more.

You know how much I love scavenger hunts, so I decided to make one for a birthday party, but added a selfie twist!  My thought was you could easily do this through a Facebook Live, Facebook Event, or Zoom meeting with your kiddos' friends. I know some have used Google Hangouts for teens.

1. Facebook Event- Create a private event and invite your kiddo's friends to join. Give them a date and time.  Start by welcoming everyone in a post and then post the first card.  Next post Clue 1. Give everyone time to take their selfie pic and encourage them to post it in the discussion. You could even create a special #hashtag. Give everyone a chance to post. Then, post Clue 2 and so on.  End by posting the  "Thank you" last card or you could have your kiddo make a short thank you video message and post it.

2. Zoom- Same concept but real-time. You could make a FB or Instagram post for everyone to post to. Make sure parents are okay with it being public.

3. Facebook Live- Same concept as Zoom with real-time, but no interaction with kids except through posting.

While you may not be able to throw the bash you had planned, there's no reason to skip the festivities altogether. If you or someone you love has a birthday coming up, plan a virtual birthday party idea you can do at home. There are plenty of ways to make the birthday girl or boy feel loved on their special day. And when this pandemic ends — and it will end — you'll have every excuse to throw the biggest, baddest birthday party of all time.
