5 Soups for Kids

Grab the Crockpot and Relax

By Amanda Hollifield, Publisher Tricities.MacaroniKid.com January 11, 2017
We loved the snow from this weekend and being home bound for a couple of days.  One of my goals this year is to cook more homemade meals for my family, especially using my crock pot more.

This weekend proved a great opportunity to do both, but I wanted to get my kids involved. So, we researched 5 soup recipes they would actually eat.

So, here is our top 5. We only made the Broccoli Cheese soup this weekend, which was a huge hit and we add enough to freeze for later!

1. Broccoli Cheese Soup. So my kids (and me) are in love with The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. My kids can watch her show for hours! So of course we wanted to try one of her recipes.  Believe or not, this was the first time I have bought Velveeta cheese in years. It was $6.88 at WalMart, what?  We made it this past Saturday and it was so good, but I did Ninja the heck out of the broccoli and carrots to be a little deceptive! Enjoy!

2.  Taco Soup. My daughter, Grace, is super excited about this one, but we really probably pass on the jalapeno.

3. Chicken Noodle Soup. I know, I know... homemade noodles? I'm always up to try something new and my kids are excited about making them homemade.  We hope to make these next week so stay tuned!

4. Loaded Baked Potato Soup

5. Chili. Last but not least, chili.  I'm going to give you my own take on our family's chili.

1 pound of ground beef; cook and drain
2 cans of chili-style tomatoes (so important to get chili style)
2 cans of chili-style beans (sometimes I mix it up between red and white)
1 Tablespoon of cayenne pepper
dash of salt and pepper.

Mix in crockpot and set on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 hours. We serve on Fritos chips and top with grated mild cheddar cheese.

6....what goes best with any soup...Grilled Cheese! Here's a great twist on an American and kid favorite.
