Unplug and Connect

April 27, 2016

So if your kids are like mine, my son at the age of 3 knew how to use my smartphone better than me and my daughter at the age of 8 is creating her own boards on Pinterest and both are telling me they want “just five more minutes.”  Recreation professionals are always looking for creative ways to unplug our youth and have them connect with nature, art, physical activity and more.

Our kids are growing up in a generation of technology that is growing and changing faster than when we grew up.  So what are parents to do? My encouragement is not just sit back and let technology step in and take the place of your supervision and what you want your kids to learn and more importantly be exposed to.

Last week I asked if you do social media and to give me some input on how Macaroni Kid needs to be present on social media. There are times I am completely overwhelmed by social media and it seems like kids today accept it as a way of life.

This week I decided to focus on the impact of technology and our kids. I only skimmed the surface of what is out there on the subject and there are a variety of differing opinions on the matter. Let me know your thoughts on the software and opinions presented. Visit Macaroni Kid's social media sites, Facebook and Twitter  to share your thoughts as well.
